Deface performed at the Brumadinho site
Greetings, citizens of the world.
Greetings, citizens of Brazil.
We have once again taken a website in order to talk with you.
In 2019 the world witnessed the second-biggest ecological disaster in Brazil. The dam breach in Brumadinho caused permanent damage to the ecology and the local society. And it also took the lives of 270 people, mostly workers of Vale, the company responsible for the dam.
Some people consider this to be the biggest work accident in the history of Brazil. We don't agree.
This was not an accident.
We are approaching the third anniversary of the tragedy. We already know, for example, that the precarious safety situation of the dam was well known by the management.
Fifteen days before the dam burst, Mr. Fabio Schvartsman, Vale's president at the time, received an e-mail denouncing the terrible conditions of the dam and warning of the impending tragedy. These denunciations were summarily ignored.
Schvartsman was even a defendant in a lawsuit filed in Minas Gerais, which was duly annulled by the Supreme Court of Justice, which ruled that the case should fall under federal jurisdiction. Meanwhile, 16 murderous executives are still on the loose, three years after they committed a massacre with their mud.
While the institutions take care of protecting the omissive and murderous executives, the 270 families that will have to celebrate another Christmas with a vacant place at the table must fight to have any kind of justice.
Several international organizations have denounced, for example, the agreement made without the presence of the affected families, behind closed doors, without any transparency.
For Vale's shareholders, the tragedy doesn't seem to have made much difference. The shares have recovered their value after a small drop a few months later.
After all, as long as there are miserable people to replace the fallen workers, life is worthless.
To the murderers of Vale, and to the institutions that work day and night to ensure their impunity, we leave a warning:
We will not forgive.
We will not forget.
