This week the entire world was surprised by an investigation conducted by The Washington Post (USA) and The Guardian (UK). According to the report, Pegasus spyware, developed by the Israeli company NSO Group, has been used to spy on people around the world ranging from religious leaders to Presidents and Prime Ministers.
The investigation revealed that more than 50,000 phones were spied on, with at least 15,000 in Mexico (including the President of Mexico, the First Lady and their children), 10,000 in Saudi Arabia, 10,000 in Hungary, among others.
Pegasus is a spyware that automatically installs itself on cell phones via SMS or even phone calls, with a process known as no-touch, that is, without any user interaction.
The scandal has shown that everyone's privacy is in check. Although the company says that the software would target criminal organizations or terrorists, the fact is that political leaders, especially from countries with authoritarian regimes, managed to get their hands on the software, and probably even the criminal organizations that the software promised to fight are also using it.
We get documentation that explains how the software works, which enables us to set goals to combat it.
